Long time no enter

Well, I can't even remember the last time I entered a new blog.

I am pretty much done with the wa wa wa part. They say time heals all wounds. Well, I don't know if it was only time and if I am actually all healed, but I am headed in the right direction.

There are so many songs about friends( I can think of two off the top of my head. One sung by Bette Midler-whom I actually met but that is another story- and one by James Taylor). I can understand why.

When I first moved down to Florida, I was lucky enough to have my connections from NY to help me get a job down here. I did make some acquaintances and actually met one person that I worked with in Bloomingdales in Queens; my first job in cosmetics. While visiting the people I worked with in Bloomingdales in Town Center in Boca Raton one day ,I met another person working in that same store that moved to the general area recently. I worked in the Bloomingdales in Queens in 1984! They were just older versions of themselves - even wearing their and makeup the same way. That to me is a mortal sin. My opinion is that the surest way to age oneself is to have the same look for 30 years.

The job only lasted 5 months. But I didn't give me a chance to socialize in my own development. It did help buy some new furniture.

Being out of work was the best thing to happen to me as far as acclimating to my new life in Florida. It allowed me to have so much free time and to figure out which activities I was interested in participating.

I always liked to work out albeit at home. One of the selling points of this place was their gym facilities. I started working out in the gym. Of course I was pretty upset with the visual. There was absolutely no eye candy. It was more like where do I not look first. I have to say that was pretty upsetting too. Where was the inspiration? I also had to learn to not listen to the music that was piped into the gym. It is mostly '50s-very early 70's which is not necessarily terrible, unless that is also all they play on the radio as well. Florida needs to update things in the music department. Sometimes there are pop songs on the radio but that is maybe 5 songs for the whole day .

I then discovered that there were classes. I had never done this before because I couldn't fit it in to my work schedule. Working out in my basement was just fine and I was very disciplined and had all my equipment(which is now sitting in my garage)

First I started by taking a class or two a week. Then it turned into 3,4,5,6... Now I work out in the classes sometimes two hours a day. On Friday there is a yoga class which is great after all the other classes I take. I really need the stretching out.

As it turns out, I am pretty much the star athlete in these classes. The obvious reason being that I am at least 6 or more years younger and have been working out for 30 years while many people started when they retired. People call me ,"The Energizer Bunny".

I made a couple of friends from the gym classes. My husband and I went to a couple of events that our place held and before we knew it we made a couple of friends. We now have a pretty active social life. I even found a few friends that could share a glass or two or bottle of wine without feeling that I am the only person that enjoys wine.

It seems that when you have one interest in common it can expand into friendship.
It does amaze me that out of 1143 houses in our development, there are only 2o some odd people who work out in the classes.

I have actually become friendly with three of the instructors.
I have had a few dinner parties, holiday get togethers and the only thing I am not sure of , is if I will get my butt back to work.

I getting close to ok

I know I haven't visited in a very long time. I promised that I would revisit when my computer came back from being repaired, but I didn't.

I have been through a lot of transition. All of which seemed to be a natural progression of getting used to my new surroundings.

I got let go of my job in Bloomingdales in" Boca". At the time this was a big blow to my ego. Getting told that anyone isn't happy with hard work that you have put your heart and soul into done never feels good. Not to mention the monetary loss leaves a gaping hole in the finances. Thank goodness for my husband's pension or we would be in big trouble. if anyone is a teacher for NYC and is familiar with tier 1 , this is what saved us from financial difficulties.

The shock is now over. ( I haven't been let go in 33 years when at that time I told off my boss while pregnant for not giving me more authority as an assistant manager of a little maternity store on the upper east side of NYC. It turned out that the manager was fired soon after she fired me. Ha Ha .)I managed to land a couple of freelance days for a company that I had worked for years before. I had a great time. I was told that the people I worked for were very happy with me and wanted me back again.

Joining some clubs in my development is putting me out there. I am over the initial culture shock of the same type of people all over the place. In Valencia Shores( the name of my developement) instead of joining a gym, you have the option to pay every month for excercise classes. Today was Zumba.. Latin type dance moves combined with aerobic activity. Lots of fun. I must say that Jewish women have a hard time shaking the bootie.. or maybe it is generational. I am soon to turn 56. Everyone here thinks that I am visiting my parents when they first see me in class. I think I am the only one that knows that the bootie has seperate joints from the tip half of the body. tbc
